One from the vault! I share my recipe for making Italian Meat Sauce, great for using in spaghetti Bolognese or what I typically use it for, lasagna. Next post I will share my Lasagna recipe. Hope you enjoy!
Italian Meat Sauce Recipe
- 1 garlic, peeled
- 30ml olive oil
- 2 large carrots, diced
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- ½ brown onion, finely diced
- 600g premium mince meat
- 2 bay leaves
- Salt & Pepper, oregano
- 2 large bottles of tomato puree ( I use homemade bottles, but you can easily find good quality bottles in all good food stores)
Step 1: Head a large casserole dish on medium heat. Once the dish is hot add diced onion and whole garlic. Brown onions and then add carrot and celery until soft.
Step 2: Add mincemeat in batches until browned. Add salt, pepper, oregano and bay leaves.
Step 3: Add tomato puree and give it a good stir. Cook for 30 – 40mins on medium heat or until a thick, meaty texture. You may wish to reduce heat to low, for the last 10 minutes of cooking. Remove the garlic before serving or using in lasagna.
